About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence engagements with privately held companies and their owners/operators.
  • Work alongside investment bankers, private equity firms, and strategic corporate buyers.
  • Lead management meetings and discussions with buyer/seller advisors.
  • Guide clients through the diligence process and prepare discussion agendas and supporting schedules.
  • Advise clients on EBITDA adjustments and business considerations.
  • Identify critical accounting areas and conduct procedures to validate or adjust them.
  • Review operating and financial metrics and prepare analyses with graphs, charts, and commentary.
  • Prepare Quality of Earnings reports covering business background, accounting functions and processes, business performance, and investor insights.
  • Analyze balance sheet items, working capital drivers, debt, and debt-like items.
  • Advise clients on purchase agreement constructs, definitions, and accounting items.
  • Assist with closing estimates, post-closing calculations, and related transaction accounting.
  • Manage client projects, workloads, and deliverables across multiple engagements.
  • Oversee associates and offshore teams and develop junior team members’ technical and client-service skills.
  • Leverage technology to improve efficiency and insight.
  • Participate in internal discussions on growth, new ideas, and process improvements.
  • Travel occasionally to GHJ headquarters and/or client locations.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s level education required.
  • Minimum 4 years professional services experience, with 3 in Transaction Advisory Services.
  • Strong accounting and diligence knowledge.
  • Exceptional analytical and communication (written and oral) skills required.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with and reconciling trial balances.
  • Experience with pivot tables, lookup formulas, index/match formulas, and writing up details of company operations, performance drivers, and trends.
  • Experience working on multiple engagements and ability to prioritize or adjust priorities.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of technical principles, theory, and practice, especially in Quality of Earnings projects.
  • Ability to apply client-industry knowledge when scoping and completing assignments.
  • Ability to identify and resolve technical problems using research, data analysis, and best practices.
  • Ability to apply learnings across transactions and implement new skills and techniques.
  • Ability to generate workable ideas and creative solutions.
  • Ability to consider options and opinions before making decisions.
  • Ability to take ownership of engagement planning, management, and delivery.
  • Ability to plan and present well-organized work product.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure.
  • Willingness to lead and take responsibility for others.
  • Ability to provide effective guidance and direction.
