About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create and deliver Girl Scout programs for assigned troops and groups
  • Serve girls in identified underserved areas throughout Polk County
  • Provide age-appropriate in-school, after-school, and summer programs for girls in grades K–12
  • Work directly with girls Monday through Friday during school and/or after school until 6:00 p.m., with occasional weekends
  • Serve as a role model and mentor
  • Act as Troop Leader where adult volunteers are unavailable
  • Deliver curricula and activities supporting the Girl Scout Leadership Experience
  • Collaborate with the Community Manager and volunteers on recruitment events for girls and adults
  • Organize beginning- and end-of-year ceremonies
  • Assist with enrichment and encampment trip planning
  • Maintain positive written and verbal communication with staff, volunteers, parents, and interested parties
  • Conduct parent meetings and secure family interests
  • Ensure participating girls and volunteers are registered with GSUSA
  • Collect girl registration documentation
  • Recruit, register, and support adult volunteers
  • Establish respectful site relationships and manage program setup and cleanup
  • Implement pre- and post-surveys to measure program quality
  • Provide quantitative and qualitative information to inform and engage funders
  • Comply with council expectations, practices, protocols, and work plans
  • Train and coach volunteers and parent helpers
  • Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Available to work 40 hours a week
  • Coursework or experience in youth development
  • Ability to perform work exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly to move objects
  • Motivated by the Girl Scout mission
  • Confidence and proficiency using Microsoft Office products
  • Engaging verbal and written communication style
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish
  • Reliable transportation
  • Documentation of required automobile insurance and safe driving record
  • Ability to utilize basic office equipment including computers and phones, with or without accommodation
  • Ability to interact virtually and in-person in indoor and outdoor settings
  • Ability to lift, carry, and display recruitment and program materials to multiple sites
  • If working from home, a private, quiet workspace with high speed / stable internet connection
