About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the company’s General Counsel in legal and compliance activities
  • Provide legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, contracts, litigation, and regulatory matters
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements
  • Manage and oversee legal review of third-party vendor contracts, maintain contract records, and improve contract-review efficiency
  • Manage the Regulatory Change Management function, including monitoring statutes, rules, and regulations
  • Identify legal risks, advise on mitigation strategies, and oversee implementation
  • Track and report operational changes and controls implemented by Compliance
  • Oversee litigation management, including coordination with external counsel and review of pleadings, settlements, and invoices
  • Develop and implement corporate policies and procedures
  • Exercise management authority over budgeting, staffing, performance evaluations, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations
  • Set departmental goals and maintain employee work schedules
  • Build relationships with executive leadership, Compliance, operational leaders, and external parties
  • Manage corporate insurance policy renewals
  • Coordinate and conduct employee training on consumer protection regulations and legal/compliance matters
  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor required
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a law firm or corporate legal department required
  • Must be licensed to practice law and in active, good standing in any state within the United States
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify needs, make recommendations for improvement, implement recommendations, and evaluate effectiveness
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, conflict management, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of internet and standard business applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer applications
  • Commitment to organizational core values and key competencies
  • Ability to foster a collaborative culture and work closely with associates and management
  • Full-time position
