About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own features end-to-end, including the user interface, from discovery with the grant team through production
Turn ambiguous business problems into clear technical plans and ship first versions quickly
Advance the AI pipeline through prompt engineering, context management, cost control, and multi-provider setup using AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, and OpenAI
Build and own AI evaluation practices for prompt quality, model selection, and regression detection
Operate, monitor, and debug the live production environment using Sentry, CloudWatch, and PostgreSQL performance tools
Make architecture decisions and shape code quality, engineering standards, and the technical roadmap
Build usable interfaces for grant writers
Shorten the time from starting a new project to a finished, submitted application through features, reliability, and automation
Work directly with the founders and closely with the grant-writing team

Requirements

What you’ll need

2+ years working in a senior engineering role
Track record of owning products or major features end-to-end
Start-up or scale-up experience
Several years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js
Solid PostgreSQL depth, including JSONB, query performance, and migrations
Experience with Next.js / React Query on the frontend
Experience with Express and BullMQ on the backend
Experience with AWS infrastructure, including ECS and RDS
Hands-on experience building and running AI pipelines in production
Experience beyond simply calling an AI API
Familiarity with AI-native tools such as Claude Code or Cursor
Clear written and spoken English
Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues
High ownership and ability to work without detailed direction
German at B1 level or above is a plus, not a requirement
Experience with AI agents and tool-calling workflows in production is a plus
Experience with Terraform is a plus
