About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider
  • Manage patient check-in and registration
  • Interview patients and record information on patient charts
  • Measure vital signs including pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height
  • Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations
  • Secure required paperwork and insurance documentation; verify insurance and patient eligibility
  • Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
  • Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists
  • Answer patient questions and keep them informed of their status
  • Inform technical staff of patient flow
  • Prepare patients for examination, record medical history, and confirm purpose of visit
  • Perform preliminary physical tests and escalate critical cases to the provider
  • Conduct point-of-care testing including flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, and HCG
  • Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception area
  • Complete order sheets, maintain supply inventory, and check expiration dates
  • Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
  • Answer phone calls and collect and sort postal correspondence
  • Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building
  • Perform equipment controls, calibration, quality assurance/quality control logging, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair-ticket submission
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma required
  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • Front Desk experience preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Under one year of Medical Assistant experience requires one of the listed certifications at the time of hire: CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, or NRCMA
  • In lieu of an approved MA Certification: 1+ years of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a Hospital or Urgent Care Setting, or 1+ years of working phlebotomist experience
  • Candidates without an approved Medical Assistant certification at hire must obtain one within 15 months of their start date to remain eligible for continued employment as a Certified Medical Assistant
  • In lieu of an approved MA Certification at the time of hire: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing or LPN or RN; EMT; or CNA
  • CPOE certification for order entry required within two weeks of start date
  • Ability to type quickly and basic computer knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Detail oriented and able to rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety of tasks, participate on a team, and accomplish goals
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect, and sensitivity to cultural/social difference
