About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider
- Manage check-in and registration processes, including required paperwork, insurance documentation, verification of insurance, and patient eligibility
- Interview patients and record medical histories and visit purposes
- Measure and document vital signs including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height
- Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations
- Process co-pays and schedule patient appointments
- Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists
- Answer patient questions, provide care-status updates, and conduct courtesy follow-up calls
- Inform technical staff of patient flow
- Conduct point-of-care testing including flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, and HCG
- Stock supplies and maintain exam rooms, front desk, and reception areas
- Complete order sheets, monitor supply inventory and expiration dates
- Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files
- Answer phone calls and sort incoming and outgoing postal correspondence
- Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building
- Perform and document equipment controls and calibration, maintain QA/QC logs, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma required
- Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
- Medical Assistant experience preferred
- Front Desk experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)
- For under one year of Medical Assistant experience, one of the listed Medical Assistant certifications is required at the time of hire: CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, or NRCMA
- In lieu of an approved MA Certification, 1+ years of working experience as a Medical Assistant in a Hospital or Urgent Care Setting, or 1+ years of working phlebotomist experience
- Candidates without an approved Medical Assistant certification at hire must obtain one within 15 months of their start date to remain eligible for continued employment as a Certified Medical Assistant
- In lieu of an approved MA Certification, graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing or LPN or RN, EMT, or CNA certification at the time of hire
- CPOE certification for order entry required within two weeks of start date
- Ability to type quickly and basic computer knowledge
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Detail oriented, able to rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety of tasks, participate on a team, and accomplish goals
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Able to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect, and sensitivity to cultural/social differences
