About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Drive the technology roadmap, prioritizing modernization, technical debt, and the adoption of new capabilities
Drive evolutionary architectures, fitness functions, and explicit trade-offs
Ensure API and microservices governance, including API-first standards, contracts, versioning, and microservices mesh best practices
Ensure consistency across distributed, event-driven architectures, messaging, resilience, and observability among squads
Guide enterprise and solution architecture, covering cross-domain integration, shared platforms, and support for squads
Sponsor Developer Experience improvements across internal platforms, templates, tooling, and automation
Track productivity metrics
Lead AI adoption in the SDLC, including code assistance, testing, code review, documentation generation, and AI-assisted architecture
Remove roadblocks and prioritize AI pilots
Recruit, develop, and retain architects and senior specialists
Establish tech leadership rituals, such as guilds, weekly architecture sessions, and mentoring
Manage career development, performance, and succession

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of experience in technology
1+ year of formal leadership experience (Manager, Head, Chief Architect, or Coordinator)
Experience managing 5+ architects or senior tech leads
Experience with legacy modernization, cloud adoption, and migration to microservices
Experience with distributed architectures in production, including microservices, event-driven architecture, API gateways, and service mesh
Knowledge of enterprise integration, data, security, observability, and resilience patterns
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and infrastructure as code
Knowledge of fitness functions, C4, ADRs, and Domain-Driven Design
Experience with internal platforms (IDPs), templates, automation, and productivity metrics
Practical use of AI in the SDLC, including code assistance, test generation, automated review, and specialized agents
Executive communication skills
People development, feedback, delegation, and succession planning
Ability to make decisions under uncertainty and time constraints
Ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
Strong focus on business results
Open-source contributions, technical publications, or speaking at relevant events are a plus
AWS Solutions Architect Professional, TOGAF, or Google Cloud Architect certifications are a plus
Experience guiding generative AI adoption within engineering teams is a plus
Experience working in environments with a strong presence of vendors/AMS is a plus
