About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee efficient, safe, and sustainable warehouse, aftermarket, and transportation operations
- Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, evaluate, and manage team members
- Oversee daily departmental operations to ensure efficiency and productivity
- Develop and communicate short- and long-term operational strategies
- Implement procedures supporting budget targets and strategic initiatives
- Negotiate with vendors, suppliers, and partners to improve profitability, efficiency, and sustainability
- Monitor aftermarket trends to maximize salvage revenue and identify new opportunities
- Oversee warehouse management systems and implement process improvements
- Analyze operational and financial reports covering inventory, salvage, transportation, and warehouse metrics
- Coordinate logistics for internal operations and external partnerships
- Ensure customer service for retail locations, donors, recycling partners, and stakeholders
- Train and monitor staff on power equipment and agency vehicle use, safety, maintenance, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and organizational policies
- Report accidents and hazards promptly
- Monitor warehouse inventory, external warehouse space needs, container distribution using FIFO, and dock/warehouse organization
- Assist with sustainability strategy and action plans, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, and sustainable procurement
- Build and maintain relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and community partners
Requirements
What you’ll need- Post-secondary degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in logistics, transportation, or warehouse operations; OR a minimum of five (5) years of progressive supervisory experience in logistics, transportation, or warehouse operations in lieu of a degree
- Strong knowledge of motor vehicle safety practices and DOT regulations
- Knowledge of Madison-area streets, traffic patterns, and approved truck routes
- Strong customer service, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of insurance required
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment, including baler and forklift
- Ability to maintain a stationary position to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Must be able to clearly communicate, identify, analyze, and assess details
