About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct early case evaluation and develop defense strategy
- Review and analyze medical records and complex medical issues
- Work directly with physicians, nurses, hospitals, risk managers, and insurance professionals
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery, and substantive legal correspondence
- Prepare and respond to written discovery
- Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, healthcare providers, corporate representatives, and other witnesses
- Prepare and defend expert witnesses
- Identify, retain, and work closely with medical experts
- Evaluate causation, standard of care, damages, and exposure
- Prepare cases for mediation and settlement
- Handle hearings and other court proceedings
- Prepare cases for trial and participate in trial proceedings
- Communicate directly with sophisticated clients and insurance professionals
- Collaborate with partners, associates, paralegals, and litigation support staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of 4-8 years of experience
- Licensed to practice in Missouri
- Illinois licensure preferred
- Excellent litigation, writing, and persuasive speaking skills
- Strong academic background
- Proven research skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Driven team player
- Trial experience preferred but not required
- Cover letter, resume, and writing sample required for consideration
