About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate serious and catastrophic accidents
- Evaluate liability, causation, damages, and exposure
- Develop litigation strategy with clients, insurers, and experienced trial counsel
- Manage cases through all phases of litigation
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery, and substantive correspondence
- Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, corporate representatives, treating physicians, and experts
- Work with accident-reconstruction, trucking, medical, and other experts
- Prepare cases for mediation and settlement
- Participate in hearings and court proceedings
- Prepare cases for trial and, depending on experience, participate as first or second chair
- Communicate directly with clients, claims professionals, witnesses, and opposing counsel
- Collaborate with partners, associates, paralegals, and litigation support staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 4–6 years of experience
- Experience defending commercial motor vehicles, trucking, transportation, and motor vehicle accident claims
- Must be licensed to practice in Missouri
- Illinois licensure preferred
- Excellent litigation, writing, and persuasive speaking skills
- Strong academic background
- Proven research skills
- Ability to work as a self-starter with minimal supervision
- Trial experience preferred but not required
- Cover letter, resume, and writing sample required for consideration
