About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, owning their performance, delivery and customer outcomes
Set expectations, delegate, coach and develop team members, provide feedback, address performance gaps and build trust and accountability
Own hiring and team planning across both squads
Lead discovery with customers, community members and internal users to shape roadmaps and priorities
Partner with Product, Design and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies and make trade-offs
Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, including milestones, risk management and interventions
Use AI to synthesise research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
Lead adoption of AI and automation across engineering and operational workflows
Set engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability and multitenant capabilities
Set engineering direction for navigation, search and resource organisation, including AI-assisted discovery
Uphold engineering standards for quality, security and operability, including validation of AI-assisted work
Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes
Participate in the engineering management on-call rota and drive improvements that reduce recurring disruption
Use Grafana AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, contributing to product feedback and roadmap decisions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams and developing technical leaders
Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems
Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
Strong product and customer judgement
Clear, concise written communication
Ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation
Appreciation for open-source development
Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them
React, TypeScript or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystem experience preferred as a bonus
Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions preferred as a bonus
Experience with navigation, search, information architecture or resource-management products preferred as a bonus
Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations preferred as a bonus
Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product preferred as a bonus
