About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads
Own the performance, delivery, and customer outcomes of two distributed engineering squads
Set expectations, delegate, coach and develop team members, provide feedback, address performance gaps, and build trust and accountability
Own hiring and team planning across both squads
Lead discovery with customers, community members, and internal users to shape roadmaps and priorities
Partner with Product, Design, and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies, and make trade-offs
Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement
Use AI to synthesise research, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
Improve planning, decision-making, and delivery; lead AI and automation adoption
Set engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability, and multitenant capabilities
Set engineering direction for navigation, search, and resource organisation
Uphold engineering standards for quality, security, operability, and AI-assisted work
Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes
Participate in the engineering management on-call rota and drive improvements that reduce recurring disruption
Use Grafana’s AI capabilities for observability, incident investigation, and management

Requirements

What you’ll need

Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams, and developing technical leaders
Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems
Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
Strong product and customer judgement
Clear, concise written communication
Ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation
Appreciation for open-source development
Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work
Applicants must be from the USA and in EST time zones
React, TypeScript, or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystem experience is a bonus
Experience leading a developer platform team is a bonus
Experience with navigation, search, information architecture, or resource-management products is a bonus
Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations is a bonus
Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product is a bonus
