About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead Application Engineering within the OneTeam delivery model
  • Own the end-to-end health, delivery, and continuous improvement of application assets supporting EHS and IT Services
  • Partner with Delivery Leaders, Technical Product Managers, Architects, and Business Stakeholders to align development with enterprise priorities
  • Lead and develop high-performing development teams
  • Ensure adherence to SDLC practices, security baselines, and operational standards
  • Oversee Application Development team operations, workflow optimization, and productivity
  • Plan and execute application development initiatives aligned with organizational goals
  • Oversee design, implementation, and deployment of software applications and systems supporting business and insurance processes
  • Assess application and infrastructure performance and implement improvements
  • Provide expert technical support for application-related issues
  • Cultivate collaboration across development, operations, and stakeholder teams
  • Evaluate and implement industry best practices and modern development practices
  • Leverage AI-powered tools across the SDLC and use AI responsibly for process analysis, data interpretation, and business artifacts
  • Implement policies, procedures, and strategies
  • Mentor employees and manage staff performance, talent selection, development, and coaching
  • Ensure team budget and performance targets are met
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship
  • Ability to see the big picture while focusing on delivering the details
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively across multiple disciplines
  • Expert understanding of machine learning concepts and their software engineering implications
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Experience documenting requirements, process flows, and acceptance criteria
  • 3-5 years of leading software development teams using Scrum, Kanban, or XP methodology
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development and/or application development
  • Minimum of 4 years of leadership experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field/experience
  • Preferred: direct experience with self-funded insurance products
  • Preferred: expert proficiency in multiple programming languages, cloud platforms, and modern development frameworks
  • Preferred: insurance or healthcare domain experience
  • Preferred: experience using Rally or similar Agile Development tracking tools
  • Preferred: experience with GitHub Copilot, Claude, or OpenAI
  • Preferred: experience with Snowflake, Azure, AWS, EFS/EBS, SQL Server, Oracle, and/or similar database technologies
  • Preferred: experience with Java, Python, .NET, and/or other programming languages
  • Preferred: experience with API development and related tooling
