About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle an inventory of claim files
- Perform detailed analysis of each claim
- Evaluate coverage and liability and issue written coverage opinions
- Monitor all aspects of claims files toward resolution
- Hire, monitor, and pay defense counsel
- Develop and implement claim litigation and resolution strategies
- Maintain accurate and detailed claim files, including correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements
- Provide information to underwriters and reinsurers on specific claims, insureds, and relevant legal trends and issues
- Secure and analyze reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records, and other documents during claim investigations
- Attend arbitrations or mediations as necessary
- Affect settlements and reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations where applicable
- Ensure timely and accurate claims payments
- Ensure claims handling complies with applicable statutes, regulations, legal requirements, company procedures, and policies
- Provide technical advice to other functional areas
- Maintain necessary adjuster licenses
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree, Associate degree, or equivalent experience
- Generally, 6 months to 7 years of experience handling casualty claims, including litigated claims, and/or experience as a paralegal or legal professional supporting civil litigation
- Paralegal certificate, legal experience, or equivalent claims experience preferred
- Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship
- Must maintain necessary adjuster licenses
- Functional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize caseload
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
