About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct nursing coverage across Great Hearts Texas North Texas campuses based on operational and clinical need
  • Provide temporary coverage for vacancies, leaves, absences, onboarding periods, high-acuity needs, and staffing gaps
  • Function as the campus school nurse when assigned
  • Perform nursing assessment, triage, intervention, emergency care, follow-up, and student disposition
  • Provide care for acute illnesses, injuries, chronic conditions, disabilities, and other student health needs
  • Administer medications and nursing treatments; maintain medication records and controlled-medication accountability
  • Perform skilled nursing procedures within RN scope of practice
  • Implement Individualized Healthcare Plans, Emergency Care Plans, and student-specific nursing plans
  • Coordinate care for students with diabetes, allergies, asthma, seizure disorders, cardiac conditions, and other significant needs
  • Participate in Section 504, ARD, and other student-support processes
  • Respond to medical emergencies and maintain emergency medications, equipment, and supplies
  • Maintain accurate, confidential documentation in the electronic health record
  • Support immunization compliance, screenings, communicable-disease response, and required reporting
  • Delegate nursing tasks appropriately and provide training, direction, supervision, and evaluation
  • Educate faculty and staff regarding student health needs, emergency plans, and medication procedures
  • Assist with nurse orientation, onboarding, competency validation, audits, quality assurance, drills, and regional Health Services projects
  • Identify and communicate operational or clinical concerns to the North Texas Regional Nurse and/or Director of Health Services
  • Maintain an organized, safe, supplied clinic and secure health records and medical supplies
  • Communicate with students, families, campus leadership, healthcare providers, and Health Services leadership
  • Participate in continuing education, meetings, training, drills, audits, and quality-improvement activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active nursing licensure and certifications
  • Must complete Texas Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance and background check
  • Successful criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance required
  • Regular travel among Great Hearts Texas North Texas campuses
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, squat, reach, and perform repetitive hand and body movements
  • Ability to respond rapidly to emergencies and perform CPR and other emergency interventions
  • Ability to assist students with mobility or positioning when necessary
  • Ability to move or position medical supplies or equipment up to approximately 50 pounds
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally for training and professional development
  • Practice in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act and Texas Board of Nursing rules and standards
