About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work within the campus health office to provide medical care and maintain health and wellness for school-age scholars and staff
- Assess and treat minor injuries, acute and chronic illnesses, and urgent or emergency needs
- Provide emergency care and stabilization until parents/guardians or EMS arrive
- Perform basic first aid and CPR as needed
- Create and maintain IHPs
- Attend 504 and IEP meetings for scholars with health concerns
- Screen scholars and identify underlying health conditions and abnormalities
- Review and implement allergy, asthma, seizure, and migraine health care plans
- Contact parents regarding illness and injuries
- Educate scholars on hygiene and safety practices
- Administer daily and over-the-counter medications according to provider/parent instructions and maintain medication documentation
- Maintain comprehensive health records, including immunizations, hearing and vision screenings, and ASIR cards
- File the state report by November 15
- Delegate tasks to and supervise Health Assistant/UAP staff
- Communicate pertinent information to the Director of Nursing and Headmaster
- Supervise communicable disease prevention and control and report diseases
- Complete accident reports on the GH's Landing page
- Recognize and report possible physical, sexual, or psychological student abuse
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA
- Support or consult on staff health for workplace injuries
- Keep the health office clean, organized, and stocked
- Provide staff training on health, emergency response, emergency medication administration, and specified emergency medications
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program (preferred education)
- Valid, unencumbered RN License in the operating or compact state
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification
- Obtain certification and conduct hearing and vision screenings per ADHS guidelines
- Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance and background check
- Experience in school nursing is highly recommended but not required
- Obtain SSMP certification and train staff on use of Epinephrine, Albuterol and Narcan for emergency use
- Expertise in school-aged-specific health care plans for acute and chronic health conditions
- Competent in implementing policies and procedures
- Maintain current competency skills and supervise health assistant/UAP competencies
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability to complete state and county required reports
- Strong organizational, communication, mentoring, coaching, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to perform standing, sitting, repetitive hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
- May be required to move or position equipment up to approximately 50 pounds
- Employment contingent upon successful criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements
