About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze background reports for incoming new hires and process client background check requests
- Work closely with the Director of Talent Service Operations and Talent Services Operations Manager to review background checks in accordance with the FCRA and applicable Data Protection legislation
- Process and review background reports under federal/state reporting guidelines and standards
- Review CVs/resumes, applications, transcripts, and other documents against background reports for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
- Identify and flag discrepancies or gaps for further investigation
- Liaise with teams to gather and verify pertinent facts
- Communicate with offices and recruiters to obtain missing information or clarify details
- Review references and contact professional references to verify employment history when needed
- Document and prepare thorough reports of findings
- Provide summaries to Talent Services Operations Manager, Director of Talent Services Operations, and/or Director of Compliance
- Send clearance notices and support informed placement decisions
- Ensure accurate and prompt turnaround on reports and conduct necessary research
- Follow up on requests, reports, and escalations throughout the screening process
- Maintain accurate records, logs, correspondence, and documentation
- Monitor firmwide background checks and follow up with offices
- Initiate and track international, client, and vendor background check requests and issue clearances
- Submit and/or approve education and license verifications in Workday, including bar and court admission requests
- Respond to verification requests from General Counsel, HRIS, and Marketing teams
- Apply business, legal, and industry best practices to clear applicants or take pre-adverse/adverse action in accordance with federal/state regulations
- Assist with other department activities and perform additional assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Legal, Research, Human Resources, or related field preferred
- 5 years' experience in Legal, Research, Law Enforcement, Labor Relations, or Human Resources in a large or medium-size organization
- Thorough understanding of labor law, industry practices and social policies that may be pertinent to the business
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred but not required
- Experience with HRIS/applicant tracking systems a plus; preferably experience with Workday
- Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
- Understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible use in a professional environment
- Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, firm-approved AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms)
- Provides exceptional client service to internal clients and external candidates and vendor partners
- Ability to respond to groups and individuals regarding background check matters with accuracy, diplomacy, and tact
- High attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent follow-up skills
- Ability to handle highly sensitive business and human resources communications, data and other information with confidentiality and discretion
- Investigative mindset and ability to remain impartial when listening to the facts of a dispute
- Ability to analyze complex problems and draw conclusions from data
- Ability to move from workstation or desk throughout the work area as needed
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity to use a phone, enter data into a computer, handle objects, and use office equipment
