About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with the Head, Portfolio Decision Sciences, RI&I to support the portfolio throughout the R&D lifecycle, from preclinical Research to late-stage clinical Development
  • Evaluate investment opportunities under significant uncertainty and limited data using systematic risk assessment and probabilistic evaluations
  • Conduct economic analyses, including ROI and NPV, for development options and scenarios
  • Work directly with pipeline project teams and governance boards to inform technical progression and investment decisions
  • Provide objective individual project assessments for R&D investment decisions
  • Make recommendations to investment body chairs based on rigorous option analyses, value-risk assessments, and resource optimisation
  • Lead portfolio- and indication-level assessments for portfolio prioritisation and investment decisions
  • Assess assets using external market perspectives, sell-side benchmarks, and competitor benchmarks
  • Support the biannual dynamic Portfolio Review process for RI&I
  • Collaborate with portfolio management, finance, Research Unit leaders, strategy, project management, and operations colleagues
  • Recommend short- and long-term focus areas and risk-mitigation approaches
  • Monitor external portfolio-management developments and propose innovations for decision-making
  • Enhance and deploy advanced analytics, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, for portfolio decisions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or related industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Understanding of Commercial and/or R&D processes
  • Experience leading or supporting project teams in drug development preferred
  • Track record of independent delivery on projects
  • Matrix management skills and ability to work effectively in a senior cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Coordination and planning skills, teamwork, and strategic thinking
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills for a wide variety of audiences, including senior management
  • Strong influencing skills and personal resilience
  • Sufficient depth in drug development to engage R&D leaders as a peer, constructively challenge development plans, and shape decisions without formal authority
  • Well-organised and methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to develop multiple options, strategies, or contingency plans and compare their pros and cons
  • High learning agility
  • PhD, MBA, or other advanced degree preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Cross-functional stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated success in enabling and driving change
