About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure delivery of quality clinical laboratory services and products within Guardant’s Oncology Division
  • Perform histology slide assessment, tissue selection, and sign-out
  • Participate in laboratory operations and improve digital pathology capabilities
  • Support clinical trial operations and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Review slides for tumor content estimation and diagnosis correlation
  • Communicate with referring pathologists and oncologists when discrepancies arise
  • Interpret immunohistochemical stains, including PD-L1
  • Participate in the quality management system, adverse outcome and non-conformity management, onsite surveys, survey-result management, and proficiency testing
  • Oversee the laboratory quality management system for conformance with Clinical Laboratory Practice Standards
  • Provide continuing education and remedial training to laboratory technical staff
  • Monitor staff competency and establish related policies and procedures
  • Promote a safe laboratory environment
  • Ensure an approved procedure manual is available to personnel
  • Monitor laboratory work to ensure medically reliable data
  • Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of services rendered
  • Advise referring physicians on the significance of laboratory findings
  • Ensure test reports include pertinent patient-interpretation information
  • Implement correction plans for identified deficiencies
  • Report test-quality and safety concerns
  • Review and approve laboratory documentation, validation plans, training and competency assessments, qualifications, audits, deviation requests, and nonconforming event reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of California and in the state of residence, or eligible for licensure
  • Physician (M.D. or D.O.) with training and demonstrated expertise in histopathology obtained within the previous six years
  • Currently certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology
  • Experience signing out IHC cases, particularly PD-L1
  • Preferable qualification for New York State in Oncology and Histopathology, or ability to obtain said qualification
  • Ability to critically evaluate and responsibly leverage AI-enabled tools in accordance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work variable hours and days depending on operational needs
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods
  • Ability to work around hazardous materials, blood specimens, moving parts, heating or freezing elements, high-speed centrifugation, fumes, and biohazard material
  • Background screening including criminal history required
