About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide effective clinical leadership for molecular pathology laboratory services and products
  • Provide clinical oversight of molecular pathology laboratory operations, including patient care, clinical trials, and clinical research
  • Ensure laboratory operations comply with applicable regulations
  • Support development, validation, and operation of Guardant’s products across locations and regulatory environments
  • Ensure clinical laboratory duties, testing systems, methodologies, verification procedures, quality control, and quality assessment are properly performed
  • Provide onsite, telephone, or electronic consultation to the clinical laboratory as needed
  • Ensure appropriate physical and environmental laboratory conditions and employee safety
  • Verify personnel perform test methods accurately and reliably
  • Act as temporary Laboratory Director when the license-holder Laboratory Director is absent
  • Delegate Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, and Testing Personnel responsibilities to qualified employees
  • Oversee proficiency testing, review reports, and implement corrective action plans
  • Maintain analytical performance standards and document remedial actions for significant deviations
  • Ensure test reports include pertinent interpretation information and provide consultation on test-result quality and interpretation
  • Ensure onsite supervision of high-complexity testing
  • Ensure adequate staffing, education, training, competency monitoring, procedure manuals, and written responsibilities
  • Perform biennial reviews of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Report test-quality and safety concerns to the Laboratory Supervisor or Safety Officer

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in California; OR
  • Must be certified in Anatomic or Clinical Pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or possess equivalent qualifications; OR
  • At least one year of laboratory training during medical residency; OR
  • At least two years of experience directing or supervising high complexity testing; OR
  • Earned doctoral degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution and certification by an HHS-approved board; OR
  • Meet specified pre-February 24, 2003 laboratory director qualifications, including laboratory training or experience and experience directing or supervising high complexity testing; OR
  • Qualified under applicable state law before February 28, 1992 to direct a laboratory in the state where it is located
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in 42 CFR 493.1443
  • Must fulfill requirements stated in the College of American Pathologists Checklist
  • Ability to critically evaluate and responsibly leverage AI-enabled tools in accordance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Background screening including criminal history is required
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods and work around hazardous materials, blood specimens, moving instruments, heating/freezing elements, centrifugation, fumes, noise, and biohazard materials
