About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own end-to-end delivery of net-new product areas from technical design through shipping
- Use AI to improve engineering workflows and help build AI-native product experiences, including MCP tools
- Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and GTM to identify problems, prototype solutions, and iterate quickly
- Make architecture and data-modeling decisions for novel problems
- Build and maintain full-stack features, including backend APIs and frontend UI
- Contribute to product framing, design tradeoffs, and GTM considerations
- Help define engineering practices and technical foundations for an early-stage team
- Build the next chapter of Gusto Solo, an all-in-one platform for solopreneurs and their accountants
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Track record of shipping full-stack features end to end
- Proficiency across a full-stack toolkit, such as Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, and GraphQL
- Judgment to choose the right tool for the problem
- Demonstrated ownership of 0→1 or greenfield projects
- Comfortable setting direction amid ambiguity
- Genuine, habitual use of AI tools in day-to-day engineering work
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Track record of strong cross-functional partnership
- AI experience requirements will be assessed during the interview process
