About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build the next generation of Gusto's business insurance purchase experience
  • Take projects from design through implementation to launch
  • Design, build, and test reliable, scalable Business Insurance products
  • Design and implement AI-powered Business Insurance experiences
  • Iterate quickly using feedback and metrics after features launch
  • Partner with product, design, and cross-functional partners to refine ideas, shape scope, and iterate on end-to-end experiences
  • Mentor and develop engineers through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing
  • Work on the end-to-end sale and servicing experience for P&C insurance products such as Workers' Compensation and General Liability, as well as PEO

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience building customer-facing products at scale
  • AI-native mindset with AI tools naturally embedded in daily workflow
  • Proven end-to-end multi-quarter project delivery experience, from initial scoping and planning through execution, stakeholder management, and successful launch
  • Aptitude for bringing clarity and simplicity to complex, ambiguous problems
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to articulate technical tradeoffs and align solutions with business needs across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong Platform and Application Engineering experience, including services, APIs, data flows, and observability
  • Strong hands-on experience building, deploying, and evaluating AI solutions in production environments is a plus
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and Python is a plus
  • Ability to work from the New York, NY location under designated hybrid office expectations
