About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the PEO Onboarding experience end to end, from discovery through business setup
- Set technical direction by turning ambiguous product bets into designs, sequencing, and durable abstractions
- Build in a regulated domain where quality and accuracy are critical
- Partner with other application teams to integrate domains into one coherent customer journey
- Negotiate ownership boundaries across teams
- Use AI for coding, review, debugging, and codebase exploration
- Build AI-assisted guidance into the onboarding experience
- Instrument the funnel, define onboarding success metrics, measure performance, and run experiments
- Raise engineering standards through reviews, testing strategy, observability, and judgment about delivery speed versus rigor
- Collaborate as part of a pod of engineers, product manager, and designer
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Meaningful experience owning customer-facing product surfaces in a large production codebase
- Strong full-stack range
- Comfortable in a mature server-side codebase and a modern component-based frontend
- Ruby on Rails and React/TypeScript are desirable
- Demonstrated AI fluency and day-to-day use of AI tooling
- Ability to shape ambiguous business needs into buildable products and ship without a perfect specification
- Strong collaboration and influence across team boundaries
- Track record of leveling up other engineers
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to work from the office approximately 2–3 days per week when based in San Francisco, Denver, or New York
