About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead prototype and first-article machining for new orthotic and prosthetic product development
  • Collaborate with Engineering on design-for-manufacturability feedback, process development, and iterative builds
  • Program complex parts using CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks CAM
  • Edit and optimize G-code programs for advanced multi-axis machining operations
  • Design and develop fixtures and work-holding solutions for low-volume and one-off parts
  • Select and optimize tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies for aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, plastics, composites, and exotic alloys
  • Perform tight-tolerance machining and validate results using CMM, optical comparator, micrometers, and indicators
  • Lead first-article inspection and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes
  • Support experimental machining and process development to advance manufacturing capabilities
  • Document processes, learnings, parameter records, and revision histories
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the machining team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Trade Certificate, apprenticeship, or relevant technical degree strongly preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive CNC machining experience required
  • 8+ years of progressive CNC machining experience in a job shop, prototype, or R&D manufacturing environment required
  • Specialist-level proficiency across multiple CNC machining competencies including advanced setup, multi-axis machining, programming, tooling strategy, and precision measurement
  • Demonstrated experience in prototype machining, R&D, or new product introduction required
  • Proficiency in CAM software including Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent
  • Strong G-code knowledge with ability to edit and optimize programs
  • Experience machining titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, plastics, composites, and exotic alloys
  • Advanced GD&T knowledge and precision measurement expertise including CMM, optical comparator, micrometers, and indicators
  • Ability to interpret incomplete or evolving designs and provide design-for-manufacturability (DFM) feedback to engineering
  • Experience in first-article inspection, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes
  • Ability to document processes, parameter records, learnings, and revision histories
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Ability to work independently and exercise significant judgment and initiative on new and non-standard assignments
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering and Operations
  • Ability to train, mentor, and develop Level I, II, and III machinists
