About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide independent patient care for orthotic devices within scope
  • Examine and evaluate patients’ needs related to disease and functional loss
  • Evaluate orthotic devices on patients and adjust them for fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality
  • Instruct patients in the use of orthotic devices
  • Monitor patients over time and make necessary device changes to maintain condition
  • Identify and reconcile device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Provide detailed clinical notes for patient records
  • Provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities
  • Follow up with patients and physicians
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
  • Assist other clinical staff
  • Adhere to safety, Medicare, HIPAA, governmental, bloodborne pathogen, and OSHA requirements
  • Perform other assigned duties and special projects
  • Work alongside a CPO, administrator, and BDM in a new Hanger Clinic office with an onsite fabrication lab

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Current certification as a Certified Fitter or Orthotics (i.e. American Board Certified (ABC)
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively fit and deliver non-custom orthotic devices, including cervical orthoses not requiring more than minor modification, pressure gradient hose, trusses, non-complex prefabricated spinal orthoses, and prefabricated upper- and lower-extremity orthoses excluding those used in treatment of bone fractures
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for accurate, concise, and organized presentations and reports
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient care service objectives
  • Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills for analyzing reports, charts, and correspondence
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists, and patients
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Effective organizational, time management, and planning skills
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations, Medicare, HIPAA, governmental regulations, bloodborne pathogen requirements, and OSHA requirements
