About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate pediatric patients’ needs related to disease and functional loss
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists and rehabilitation team members
- Recommend prosthetic and/or orthotic treatment options
- Formulate designs for prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
- Select materials, take cast measurements, modify models and prepare layouts
- Fit devices, including static and dynamic alignments
- Evaluate, adjust and ensure device fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
- Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Identify and resolve device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
- Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
- Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
- Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing cost and operational performance
- Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services and develop referral relationships
- Implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets
- Maintain detailed clinical notes in patient records
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when needed
- Assist other clinical staff
- Support administrative reimbursement activities
- Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen and OSHA requirements
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
- May perform on-call or hospital calls and float between Hanger Clinic locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent, and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- A valid driver’s license and driving record within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures standards
- Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
- Candidates certified in one discipline may be considered while completing residency in the other discipline
- Candidates who are not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under a certified clinician’s supervision
- Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
- Active listening, reading and comprehension skills
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
- Interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, time management and planning skills
- Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds alone
- Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly
- Sufficient near and distant visual acuity
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
- Ability to push wheeled equipment
- Adequate fine motor skills
- Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours
