About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Under direct supervision of a certified clinician, evaluate patients and custom design, fabricate, and fit shoes, prostheses, and/or orthoses.
  • Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patients’ needs for pedorthotic services and recommend treatment options.
  • Examine and evaluate patient needs in relation to disease and functional loss.
  • Formulate designs for pedorthotic devices.
  • Select materials; make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts using new techniques and materials.
  • Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments.
  • Evaluate and adjust pedorthotic, prosthetic, and orthotic devices for fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality.
  • Instruct patients in the use of pedorthotic, orthotic, or prosthetic devices.
  • Identify and reconcile issues to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians.
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals.
  • Manage materials, quality, performance, costs, and operational/financial performance.
  • Meet with physicians, case managers, and referral sources to review services, capabilities, and develop business relationships.
  • Implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets with management.
  • Provide detailed clinical notes in patient records.
  • May mentor newly certified clinicians and assist other clinical staff.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
  • Follow safety regulations, Medicare and governmental regulations, bloodborne pathogen requirements, and OSHA requirements.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current board certification in Pedorthist from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet board eligibility.
  • May be willing to consider candidates who are not certified or board-eligible.
  • In states where licensure is required, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required as well.
  • A valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Willingness to verify all clinical activities with certified clinical personnel.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Hand skills necessary to use laboratory tools safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of biomechanical principles.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for reporting information to patient and staff.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize and plan for the purpose of meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
