About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide or supervise comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care
  • Assess patients, formulate treatment plans, implement plans and follow up with patients
  • Evaluate and analyze patient needs in collaboration with physicians
  • Recommend treatment options to physicians
  • Examine and evaluate patient needs related to disease and functional loss
  • Design prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Select materials, take cast measurements, modify models and prepare layouts
  • Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments
  • Evaluate devices on patients and adjust fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
  • Instruct patients in use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Identify and reconcile device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
  • Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing cost and operational performance
  • Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services and develop business relationships
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets with management
  • Document detailed clinical notes in patient records
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians
  • Assist other clinical staff
  • Provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities
  • Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen and OSHA requirements
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
  • May perform on-call or hospital calls, or float between Hanger Clinic locations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent, and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
  • A valid driver’s license and driving record within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
  • Candidates not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician
  • Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
  • Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient care services
  • Active listening, reading and comprehension skills
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
  • Interpersonal, organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds alone and frequently lift patients using biomedical techniques
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain records and understand written directions
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
  • Ability to push wheeled equipment
  • Adequate fine motor skills
  • Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
