About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patients’ prosthetic and/or orthotic needs and recommend treatment options
- Examine and evaluate patient needs related to disease and functional loss
- Formulate designs for prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
- Select materials, take casts and measurements, perform model modifications and layouts
- Fit devices, including static and dynamic alignments
- Evaluate and adjust devices for fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
- Instruct patients in use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
- Identify and resolve issues to ensure patient satisfaction
- Follow up with patients and physicians
- Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
- Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing costs and operational/financial performance
- Develop relationships with physicians, case managers and referral sources
- Implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets with management
- Document detailed clinical notes in patient records
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians as needed
- Assist other clinical staff and provide information for reimbursement activities
- Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen and OSHA requirements
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
- May perform on-call or hospital calls, or float between Hanger Clinic locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), OR a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- Valid driver’s license and driving record within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
- Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
- Candidates not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under supervision of a certified clinician
- Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry and suitability/reliability for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective oral and written communication and reporting skills
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
- Interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, time management and planning skills
- Ability to lift 50 pounds independently and frequently lift patients using biomedical techniques
- Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly
- Visual acuity, speaking/hearing, pushing wheeled equipment, fine motor skills, and ability to participate in sustained activities
