About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide or supervise comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care
  • Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs and recommend treatment options
  • Examine and evaluate patients in relation to disease and functional loss
  • Formulate designs for prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Select materials, take cast measurements, modify models and prepare layouts
  • Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments
  • Evaluate and adjust devices for fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
  • Instruct patients in use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Identify and resolve device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Follow up with patients and physicians
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
  • Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing costs and operational performance
  • Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services, develop relationships and secure referrals
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets
  • Document detailed clinical notes in patient records
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians as needed
  • Assist other clinical staff and administrative staff with reimbursement activities
  • Comply with safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen and OSHA requirements
  • Perform on-call, hospital calls or float between Hanger Clinic locations as needed
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under supervision of a certified clinician may be considered for candidates who are not certified or board-eligible
  • Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
  • Thorough understanding of componentry and suitability/reliability for specific uses
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
  • Active listening, reading and comprehension skills
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
  • Interpersonal, organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds alone and frequently lift patients using biomedical techniques
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day
  • Visual acuity for maintaining records, recognizing people and understanding written directions
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
  • Ability to push wheeled equipment
  • Fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies
  • Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
