About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide or supervise comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care
- Assess patients and formulate, implement, and follow up on treatment plans
- Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs and recommend treatment options
- Examine and evaluate patient needs related to disease and functional loss
- Design prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Select materials, make cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts
- Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments
- Evaluate, adjust, and ensure device fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality
- Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Identify and reconcile device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
- Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
- Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health care professionals
- Manage materials, quality, performance, costs, and operational/financial performance
- Develop relationships with physicians, case managers, and referral sources
- Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets
- Provide detailed clinical notes in patient records
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when requested
- Assist other clinical staff
- Support administrative reimbursement activities
- Comply with safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne, and OSHA requirements
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
- May perform on-call or hospital calls, or float between multiple Hanger Clinic locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics, or the foreign equivalent, and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- A valid driver’s license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
- In states where licensure is required, the ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required as well
- Candidates certified in one discipline may see patients in their certified discipline while completing residency in the other discipline
- Candidates who are not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under the supervision of a certified clinician
- Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective oral and written communication and reporting skills
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient care services
- Active listening, reading and comprehension skills
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
- Ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists and patients
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Effective organizational, time management and planning skills
- Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift fifty (50) pounds alone
- Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day
- Sufficient near and distant visual acuity
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
- Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility
- Fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies
- Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
