About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide or supervise comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care
- Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs and recommend treatment options
- Examine and evaluate patients in relation to disease and functional loss
- Formulate designs for prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Select materials, take cast measurements, modify models and prepare layouts
- Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments
- Evaluate, adjust and ensure device fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
- Instruct patients in use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
- Identify and reconcile device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
- Follow up with patients and physicians
- Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
- Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing costs and operational performance
- Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services, capabilities and develop referral relationships
- Plan and implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets
- Provide detailed clinical notes for patient records
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when applicable
- Assist other clinical staff and administrative staff with reimbursement activities
- Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen and OSHA requirements
- Perform other assigned duties or special projects
- Potentially provide on-call or hospital calls and float between Hanger Clinic locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), OR a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- A valid driver’s license and driving record within Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures standards
- In states where licensure is required, ability to obtain and maintain state licensure may be required
- Candidates certified in one discipline may be considered while completing residency in the other discipline
- Candidates who are not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated past experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under supervision of a certified clinician
- Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective oral and written communication and reporting skills
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient care objectives
- Active listening, reading and comprehension skills
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
- Interpersonal, teamwork, organizational, time management and planning skills
- Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds independently
- Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day
- Adequate near and distant visual acuity
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
- Ability to push wheeled equipment
- Fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies
- Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours
