About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate patients’ needs related to disease and functional loss
- Collaborate with physicians to evaluate prosthetic and/or orthotic needs and recommend treatment options
- Formulate designs for prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
- Select materials, take cast measurements, modify models, and prepare layouts
- Fit devices, including static and dynamic alignments
- Evaluate, adjust, and optimize device fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality
- Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
- Identify and resolve device issues to ensure patient satisfaction
- Follow up with patients and physicians
- Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
- Manage materials, quality, performance, costs, and operational/financial outcomes
- Meet with physicians, case managers, and referral sources to review services and develop referral relationships
- Implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets
- Provide detailed clinical notes for patient records
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when needed
- Assist other clinical staff
- Support administrative reimbursement activities
- Comply with safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne, and OSHA requirements
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
- Potentially provide on-call or hospital-call coverage and float between Hanger Clinic locations
- If not certified, provide care under the direction of a certified clinician
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from ABC or BOC, or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
- Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
- Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
- Candidates not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under a certified clinician’s supervision
- Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
- Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
- Active listening, reading, and comprehension skills
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
- Interpersonal, organizational, time management, and planning skills
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds independently
- Ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during the workday
- Sufficient near and distant visual acuity
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
- Ability to push wheeled equipment
- Adequate fine motor skills
- Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours
