About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide or supervise comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic care
  • Assess patients and formulate, implement and follow up on treatment plans
  • Collaborate with physicians to evaluate patient needs and recommend treatment options
  • Examine and evaluate patient needs related to disease and functional loss
  • Design prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Select materials, take cast measurements, perform model modifications and layouts
  • Fit devices, including static and dynamic alignments
  • Evaluate and adjust devices for fit, function, medical efficacy and quality
  • Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Identify and resolve issues to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Provide follow-up with patients and physicians
  • Provide in-service training to physicians and allied health professionals
  • Manage materials, quality and performance processes while balancing costs and operational/financial performance
  • Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services and develop referral relationships
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets
  • Document detailed clinical notes in patient records
  • Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians
  • Assist other clinical staff
  • Provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities
  • Follow safety, Medicare, governmental, bloodborne pathogen and OSHA requirements
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Potentially perform on-call or hospital calls and float between Hanger Clinic locations
  • Primarily provide orthotic care, with potential expansion into prosthetics as patient demand increases

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from ABC or BOC, or a baccalaureate degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures
  • Ability to obtain and maintain state licensure where required
  • Candidates certified in one discipline may be considered while completing residency in the other discipline
  • Candidates who are not certified or board-eligible may be considered with at least 5 years of demonstrated experience providing prosthetic and/or orthotic services under supervision of a certified clinician
  • Thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology
  • Thorough understanding of componentry and its suitability and reliability for specific uses
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology
  • Effective oral and written communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers
  • Active listening, reading and comprehension skills
  • Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options
  • Ability to build professional relationships with physicians, therapists and patients
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Effective organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques and lift 50 pounds independently
  • Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a work day
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain records, recognize people and understand written directions
  • Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand and give directions
  • Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility
  • Fine motor skills for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment and supplies
  • Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in accordance with state labor laws
