About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Technology accounts
- Drive profitable growth aligned with Technology appetite and mix goals
- Apply technical, sales, and analytical skills to provide insurance solutions
- Use internal and external data to make individual and portfolio risk decisions
- Advise core underwriters on technology risk appetite and liability, professional, and cyber exposures
- Operate within a standard letter of authority while managing a moderately complex book of business
- Apply risk selection, hazard identification, coverage analysis, and loss analysis
- Use underwriting tools and guidelines to ensure compliance and profitability
- Analyze pricing, exposure, financial information, and competitive positioning
- Ask questions to identify the full scope of operations and exposures
- Complete file documentation and articulate account decisions
- Follow CAT guidelines and maintain underwriting discipline
- Provide accurate rating instructions before proposal generation
- Manage the assigned portfolio for premium, profitability, retention, industry mix, and new business goals
- Analyze financial reports and insurance performance metrics, including OBIEE
- Prepare and review adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and declinations
- Identify, pipeline, negotiate, and close accounts aligned with Technology and branch strategies
- Profile agency partners and market capabilities to agents
- Build relationships and secure commitments through negotiation
- Identify cross-sell opportunities and partner with other business units
- Execute sales practices using Salesforce and other tools
- Deliver sales presentations to agents and customers
- Collaborate with Claims, Risk Solutions, and Operations
- Develop and implement Territory Business Plans for agency partners
- Maintain assigned work schedules and attend onsite activities, meetings, or training when required by business needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 3–7+ years in standard commercial lines underwriting
- Experience with accounts $100K+ preferred
- Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, pricing methodology, and risk assessment
- Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to consult effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Skilled in exercising sound judgment, negotiating effectively, and making informed business decisions
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong team orientation; fosters inclusion and respect for diverse perspectives
- Proficient in prioritization, desk management, and meeting deadlines
- Proficiency in underwriting systems/tools
- Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance
- Ability to communicate via phone, email, Teams, and in-person interactions as required
- Ability to maintain sound judgment and attention to detail while managing multiple priorities under pressure
- Ability to underwrite and price Technology specialty coverages such as products, professional, and cyber liability with some guidance on more complex exposures
- Knowledge of state/territory regulations and trends
