About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform all aspects of complete design for complex civil/structural engineering assignments
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis under general supervision
  • Use department design and drafting standards
  • Review project scope, specifications, and design criteria
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs
  • Produce detailed design calculations and construction-material sketches
  • Design for efficient material use, ease of construction, and client expectations
  • Check other engineers’ calculations for accuracy, codes, specifications, design criteria, and engineering practice
  • Assist drafting teams with layout and detailing problems
  • Consult with other discipline design leaders to coordinate project information
  • Advise the senior engineer on design or scope changes
  • Help develop scopes, drawings, and specifications packages for procurement and subcontract pricing
  • Review vendor drawings, discipline drawings, fabrication drawings, and construction submittals
  • Develop construction specifications
  • Perform fieldwork, gather field data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel
  • Lead civil/structural teams while managing scope, schedule, and budget
  • Identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support
  • Lead communication and execution within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Estimate and schedule professional service hours
  • Assess the progress and quality of civil/structural work

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required
  • Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions
  • Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering
  • Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)
  • Expertise with civil/structural analysis software, including operating and interpreting results
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques for engineering, designing, and constructing process and manufacturing projects
  • Ability to lead small to large teams to deliver on commitments
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
