About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students enrolled in the program
  • Supervise and interact with students individually and in groups
  • Complete and submit paperwork accurately and on time
  • Collaborate regularly with the principal to ensure the program meets expectations
  • Provide monthly progress reports to the supervisor
  • Maintain designated school space in a clean and orderly manner
  • Monitor and approve employees’ timecards
  • Open and close the site during AM and PM shifts
  • Pick up, maintain, and return devices used for distance learning and remote working
  • Work at least 90% of all program hours
  • Supervise day-to-day in-person and distance learning program activities
  • Provide regular supervision, coaching, training, direction, and evaluation to staff
  • Develop and coordinate creative program activities appropriate for enrolled students
  • Create and monitor student behavior and transitional plans
  • Maintain attendance and snack records
  • Conduct Site Meetings and Supervision Meetings
  • Develop positive professional relationships with staff, parents, and children
  • Create and distribute program information, forms, newsletters, calendars, and other materials
  • Conduct regular parent meetings to distribute information and obtain feedback
  • Direct staff interactions with internal and external customers
  • Enforce progressive disciplinary procedures while providing strength-based support
  • Participate in preparing and reviewing legal-related matters under HR direction

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have 48 completed college units OR pass the District’s Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (a basic math and literacy exam)
  • Must have either a minimum of 12 completed units in child development, elementary and/or middle school education, recreation or related field OR a minimum of 12 months documented work experience in an ASES program
  • Must have 1 year supervisory experience of children and staff OR 1 year assistant supervisory experience within Harmonium OR demonstrated administrative and programmatic experience (e.g. attendance tracking, staff counseling/training, student support)
  • Must have 1 year working in an afterschool program or group child care setting with elementary and/or middle school aged children
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills required
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification upon hire
  • Valid TB results upon hire, required every 4 years
  • Must receive Fingerprint Clearance
  • Reliable transportation to travel through San Diego County
  • Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance when using a personal vehicle
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and computer
  • Ability to work in noisy and outdoor environments
  • Ability to travel throughout the county with required flexibility
  • Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds
  • Ability to perform frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods
  • Ability to perform occasional standing, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching functions
