About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and maintain software and tooling for deploying, configuring, and operating products across desktop, single-box, on-premise, and cloud targets
Build production-grade container images and interfaces for hosting platforms
Own deployment and upgrade strategies for stateful distributed components, including recovery paths
Deliver releases to customers across diverse and restricted environments
Develop internal platform capabilities for R&D self-service infrastructure and software
Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and internal developer tooling
Instrument deployments and delivery pipelines for data-driven decisions
Contribute to architectural decisions and validate implementations against specifications
Own the quality of AI-generated output
Own the deployment testing strategy
Collaborate with Architects, UX Designers, Product Managers, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience in platform or software engineering in a commercial environment
Experience shipping software to structurally different deployment targets
Built and shipped production-grade container images
Cloud deployment and Infrastructure-as-Code experience on AWS
Understanding of application security, trust boundaries, identity models, and secrets handling
Built and maintained CI/CD pipelines
Ability to define specifications, interrogate vague requirements, record decisions and trade-offs, and define tests
Ability to decompose systems into components with clear responsibilities and authenticated interfaces
AI-first workflow experience or readiness to commit to it
Ability to recognise incorrect or insecure AI output
Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and deployment topologies quickly
Ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, and non-technical stakeholders
May require UK national Security Check (SC) vetting; candidates must be eligible for and willing to undergo this if needed
Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
Kubernetes, AWS or Azure certification, FastAPI, React, or TypeScript are helpful but not required
