About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Set the architectural vision and milestones for teams building highly scalable Java and web-based applications.
Lead adoption of AI-driven development practices, including AI-DLC and AI coding agents such as Claude Code.
Define standards for reviewing, testing, and validating AI-generated code and design artifacts.
Evaluate and architect solutions integrating LLMs into products and internal workflows.
Evolve the enterprise architectural stack.
Review and approve technical designs and help teams deliver according to development standards.
Participate in the complete software development lifecycle within an Agile process.
Plan performance requirements, set targets, and troubleshoot production bottlenecks.
Develop and evolve development practices, including unit testing, code review, build, and deployment.
Evaluate new technologies and develop proofs of concept.
Meet with clients and internal users to determine long-term system needs and requirements.
Provide technical support and assist clients with technical implementation requirements and plans.
Coach and mentor developers, testers, and product managers.
Maintain the effectiveness and implementation of the MEDHOST Quality Management System and meet applicable regulatory requirements.
Perform applicable QMS procedures and other duties as required.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Master’s Degree in Computer Science or an Engineering field.
4 years of development experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or an Engineering field and 6 years of development experience, with significant hands-on Java experience.
Significant technical leadership experience and maturity.
Hands-on experience applying the AI-Driven Development Life Cycle (AI-DLC) or similar AI-native development methodologies to production software.
Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs), including prompt and context engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and integrating LLM APIs into applications.
Experience using Claude Code or comparable AI coding agents in day-to-day development, including configuring project context and guiding agents through structured, reviewable workflows.
Experience designing and implementing a highly available environment, as well as the nuances of a clustered solution.
Experience designing and implementing infrastructure aspects (server, middleware, and network) of web-based applications.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and documentation abilities.
Strong understanding of database concepts including design, implementation, support, and performance optimization.
Working knowledge of cloud-based systems.
DB2 / AS/400 / Power Systems experience and understanding is a plus.
Healthcare knowledge is a plus (FHIR, HL7, SNOMED, Medi-Span, etc.).
