About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate need for and order laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Review and accurately record laboratory results in prenatal records
  • Review and interpret laboratory results with clients
  • Refer abnormal results to case manager for follow-up
  • Assess need for referral to other healthcare providers
  • Educate patients and families and encourage participation in healthcare decisions
  • Participate in constant labor and delivery coverage for caseload
  • Evaluate and determine disposition of clients in the triage area
  • Collaborate, consult, and refer with physicians according to practice guidelines and nurse-midwifery regulations
  • Act as stand-by for unattended private deliveries when physician is unavailable
  • Act as Cesarean section first assist for clients and private physicians as needed
  • Complete postpartum rounds, discharges, and billing slips
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and performance improvement activities
  • Attend at least 50% of Obstetrics Department meetings annually
  • Maintain contact with professional organizations
  • Participate in continuing education and obtain CEUs necessary to maintain state licensure and prescriptive authority
  • Supervise nurse-midwifery students and family practice residents during clinical rotations
  • Support coworkers’ adaptation to workplace changes and assume a leadership role

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited midwifery program with Certificate of nurse-midwifery
  • Successful completion of integration experience in an accredited midwifery program
  • American Heart Association BLS
  • NJ Nurse Midwife
  • Ability to lift 15 lbs. from floor to waist
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs. at waist level and above
