About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests and recording blood pressure, weight, temperature, and patient history summaries
- Clean examination rooms and obtain lab specimens
- Select appropriate equipment for specimen collection and verify specimen orders
- Prepare exam rooms and assist licensed independent practitioners as requested
- Maintain supplies, testing forms, and assigned statistics
- Perform clerical duties including patient registration, phone answering, appointment scheduling, medical-record filing, and report distribution
- Perform electrocardiograms and point-of-care testing according to policies, procedures, and universal precautions
- Interview patients, record medical histories, and confirm visit purposes
- Document medications, refills, and patient calls in electronic medical records
- Keep rooms stocked and organized and manage paperwork and filing
- Coordinate with front-office and ancillary staff to support patient service
- Assist with check-in/check-out, claim creation, discharge paperwork, referrals, patient education, appointments, and insurance eligibility
- Perform selected clinical and clerical duties across Capital Health offices under provider and manager direction
- Cross-train and perform Patient Reception Representative duties as needed
- Upload NJPMP access documentation and perform monitoring under LIP direction
- Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections according to Capital Health policies
- Perform other assigned duties and work at other Capital Health Medical Group practices as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an approved accrediting agency
- Program must include at least 330 clock hours of instruction
- Training in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, anatomy and physiology, equipment choice, proper sterile technique, hazards and complications, and emergency procedures
- Must maintain current certification from AAMA, NCCT, AMCA, NAHP, NCMA, AMT, or another recognized certifying body approved by the board
- AHA BLS; non-licensed employees must obtain it before the end of the orientation period
- No minimum experience required
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of insurance specifications and medical terminology
- Excellent phone etiquette and effective communication
- Basic computer and data-entry skills
- Medical record management knowledge
- Ability to take delegation from RNs/LPNs
- Ability to multitask and maintain composure in stressful situations
- Ability to prepare records according to detailed instructions
- Consistent and timely attendance
- Ability to lift 40 lbs. from floor to waist and from waist level and above
- Willingness to work around bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, and dust/particulate matter
