About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collaborate with OR and GI Endoscopy Unit to schedule cases, negotiate dates and times, and avoid resource conflicts
  • Coordinate special procedure needs with internal departments, staff, and external resources
  • Gather complete patient and procedure information
  • Schedule hospital procedures and testing promptly
  • Prepare and distribute schedules within established time frames
  • Work with physicians and office administration to maximize utilization of time
  • Obtain insurance pre-certifications and authorizations; complete referrals
  • Assist co-workers during periods of heightened patient activity
  • Provide prompt patient service by telephone and at the front desk
  • Oversee registration, checkout, medical records handling, and patient flow
  • Review routine issues and unusual circumstances with physicians; handle patient complaints and escalate difficult situations
  • Perform medical receptionist duties, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, filing records, checking patients in/out, collecting co-pays and fees, and completing related computer and paperwork
  • Coordinate follow-up care communications and reminder cards
  • Oversee chart preparation, filing, retrieval, completion, and purging
  • Plan daily schedules to maximize physician productivity
  • Coordinate physician activities and programs with Capital Health departments
  • Coordinate hospital patient activity for doctors and billing company
  • Implement provider scheduling and coordinate exam rooms, equipment, and other resources
  • Help develop and implement practice growth plans with physicians and the Director/Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year medical office or hospital setting experience
  • Ability to collaborate with OR and GI Endoscopy Unit to schedule cases
  • Ability to obtain pre-certification and authorizations from insurance carriers
  • Ability to perform medical receptionist duties, including telephone service, appointment scheduling, medical records, patient check-in/check-out, fee collection, and computer/paperwork tasks
  • Ability to manage medical records, charts, referrals, and pre-certifications
  • Ability to use keyboards and perform repetitive motion activities
  • Ability to meet the listed physical and sensory demands
