About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop detailed and rough order of magnitude cost estimates for MEP infrastructure construction projects
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, studies, site visit information, schedules, and scope requirements
  • Prepare accurate cost breakdowns, project budgets, and competitive estimates
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, clients, and vendors
  • Support proposal development, bid preparation, value engineering, cost forecasting, project budgeting, and change order pricing
  • Identify cost-saving solutions while maintaining project quality and client expectations
  • Maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain pricing and market information
  • Evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals
  • Maintain estimating records, cost databases, bid documentation, and project information
  • Prepare reports and cost analyses for project teams, operations leadership, and clients
  • Ensure estimates align with building codes, industry standards, safety requirements, and project specifications
  • Stay current on construction trends, MEP technologies, market conditions, and estimating best practices
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, operations managers, and project teams
  • Participate in professional development and expand technical and leadership skills
  • Travel occasionally to project sites throughout Indianapolis and Central Indiana
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Normally requires 10+ years of experience in MEP construction estimating or related construction cost management roles, or equivalent experience
  • OSHA Safety Training/Certification required or ability to obtain certification within the first two years of employment
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, construction practices, project sequencing, and construction cost estimating methodologies
  • Significant experience preparing estimates for large, complex construction projects, preferably valued at $5 million or greater
  • Experience with MEP infrastructure upgrade, replacement, renovation, or modernization projects
  • Healthcare market experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop conceptual estimates and rough order of magnitude budgets
  • Experience with estimating software and construction management platforms such as Bluebeam, Procore, Trimble, or similar tools
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience developing budgets, cost forecasts, bid proposals, and change order pricing
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, studies, and contract documents
  • Experience coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and client stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to remain sedentary at a desk for long periods while operating a keyboard and computer screen
  • Reliable transportation to and from the project
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments and access all areas of jobsites
  • Ability to move, transport, or position items weighing up to 25 lbs.
