About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide psychiatric consultation and ongoing psychiatric treatment for long-term chronic care, post-acute, and assisted living programs at one or more Hebrew SeniorLife venues
  • Participate in nurse practitioner teaching opportunities
  • Provide psychiatric consultation requested by primary care teams
  • Perform emergency psychiatric consultation and assist with safe patient disposition
  • Recommend medications and treatment regimens based on assessed psychiatric conditions
  • Recommend referrals to specialists and multidisciplinary team members
  • Follow department policies, procedures, quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards
  • Document patient visits in the medical record, typically the same day
  • Submit patient visit charges within 72 hours using the electronic charge capture system or established process
  • Meet productivity benchmarks established by Department of Medicine Administration
  • Participate in on-call coverage, staff education and support, medical staff quality improvement and review activities, and Medical Staff meetings
  • Train and supervise nurse practitioner students
  • Represent the Department of Medicine on Hebrew SeniorLife committees
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to independently diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions in adult and geriatric patients using current, evidence-based approaches
  • Master's, Post-Master's, or Doctoral (DNP/PhD) degree from a graduate program fully accredited by CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN) authorization from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
  • APRN Independent Prescriptive Authority
  • Active and unrestricted Massachusetts RN License
  • Maintain Massachusetts bi-annual continuing education contact-hour requirements
  • Active and unrestricted Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR)
  • Federal DEA Registration with authorization to prescribe Schedules II-V substances
  • Preferably 2 years or more of experience caring for seniors as a geriatric psychiatry NP in long-term chronic care, community, or home settings
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in the area of medical expertise
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in the area of expertise
