About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform daily phlebotomy activities accurately and on time under supervisor direction
- Collect and process clinical specimens following established procedures
- Maintain required records, documentation, and phlebotomy logs
- Greet and courteously assist patients
- Complete requisitions accurately
- Research test information using the laboratory computer system or Directory of Service
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required
- Package specimens for transport
- Compile and submit monthly statistics and data
- Perform clerical duties including filing, faxing, mail preparation, and electronic data entry
- Follow departmental policies, protocols, safety, compliance, grooming, dress, and lab coat requirements
- Answer telephones and communicate appropriately with patients, coworkers, and healthcare providers
- Escalate unresolved problems to the appropriate manager or supervisor
- Keep work areas clean and dispose of biohazard containers as scheduled
- Assist with inventories, stock supplies, and perform assigned department-related duties
- Participate in teams and special projects as requested
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements, including weekends, holidays, on call and overtime
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, including geriatric phlebotomy
- Good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage patient concerns professionally
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting
- Ability to perform data entry
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical terminology helpful
- Phlebotomy certification preferred
- 1 year phlebotomy experience, including geriatric capillary and venipuncture
- Keyboard/data-entry application experience, if applicable
- Customer service experience in a service environment
