About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage the overall financial performance and operations of an assigned commercial banking team and market area
- Develop and implement a business plan to grow the market area's portfolio while maintaining credit quality standards
- Establish and service a sound loan portfolio through new business development and expansion of existing relationships
- Achieve or exceed portfolio, production and annual performance goals
- Participate in strategic planning and coordinate marketing and promotional programs
- Meet with bankers to establish, monitor and achieve individual goals supporting the Bank's strategic plan
- Maintain awareness of competitive products, practices, rates and local market changes
- Build partnerships across Bank lines of business to support referrals and sales
- Manage expenses within or under budget and contribute to bank profitability
- Develop and maintain quality loan and deposit portfolios
- Counsel clients on business plans and strategies
- Conduct prospecting, cold calling, customer visits and outside business development
- Assist the team with customer calls, transaction negotiations, cross-selling and loan approvals
- Analyze and screen loan requests; prepare and present credit analyses and recommendations
- Negotiate loan terms and conditions with Credit Administration
- Achieve growth goals for loans, deposits and fees
- Monitor credits through periodic reviews, analysis, credit-quality grading and documentation
- Maintain client contact and remedy loan deficiencies
- Prepare and present required loan reports
- Analyze borrower creditworthiness and approve loans within lending authority or recommend higher-level approvals
- Monitor borrower performance and identify developing problems
- Develop strategies for troubled credits and assist with problem-loan workouts
- Monitor past-due reports and recommend risk-rating, administrative-status, non-accrual or charge-off changes
- Complete quarterly reports for loans on administrative status
- Maintain knowledge of commercial law, UCC, banking regulations and policies
- Represent the Bank at community functions and build referral networks
- Provide direct reports with tools and authority to perform their functions
- Develop staff through goal-setting, coaching, delegation, training, counseling and performance management
- Recommend staffing levels and approve personnel actions with the Regional Manager and Human Resources
- Conduct timely performance reviews and salary recommendations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant discipline preferred
- 8+ years of recent and progressively responsible commercial banking experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years of recent supervisory/leadership experience managing a team of bankers and support staff required
- Advanced knowledge of business development, credit underwriting, loan structuring, credit quality, commercial real estate and C&I lending practices
- Formal credit training and/or Pacific Coast Banking School Graduate or equivalent highly desired
- Equivalent combination of education, management experience, and training may be considered
- Demonstrated business development and sales success
- Leadership, managerial, employee development, performance management, training and counseling skills
- Strong relationship management, influencing, networking and relationship-building skills
- Effective listening, verbal, written and telephone business communication skills
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English well
- Strategic problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Strong planning, organizational, time-management and follow-up skills
- Business and financial analysis and modeling skills
- Understanding of financial accounting, income statements and balance sheets
- Ability to analyze, synthesize and report information accurately
- Knowledge of principles, procedures, requirements, regulations and policies related to assigned oversight area
- Proficiency with MS Office products, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Working knowledge of automated financial systems and ability to learn new technologies
- Regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to schedule
- Willingness to work flexible/rotating schedules, extended hours and assist at other locations or remotely as needed
- Willingness to travel up to 50%, including possible overnight travel
- Valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation, or an alternative transportation method
