About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements
  • Ensure laboratory operations comply with Hexion internal EHS policies, corporate standards, and management system requirements
  • Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory-specific EHS policies, procedures, and standard operating practices
  • Manage chemical hygiene plans, laboratory safety manuals, and safe work practices
  • Oversee hazard communication programs, SDS management systems, and chemical inventory controls
  • Maintain compliance with environmental programs including air, waste, and water
  • Submit periodic regulatory reports, including RCRA, EPCRA, and CAA requirements
  • Serve as primary site contact for regulatory authorities and inspections
  • Conduct laboratory risk assessments, hazard analyses, and job safety analyses
  • Identify chemical, physical, and ergonomic hazards and implement mitigation strategies
  • Complete Management of Change reviews
  • Support safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous waste
  • Conduct routine laboratory inspections and track corrective actions to closure
  • Lead self-audits and coordinate external EHS audits
  • Track EHS metrics, analyze trends, and communicate results to site and corporate leadership
  • Coordinate emergency response for laboratory incidents, including chemical spills
  • Conduct incident investigations and implement corrective action plans
  • Manage inspection and testing of emergency response equipment
  • Develop, update, and deliver site-specific EHS training programs
  • Provide onboarding safety training for new R&D employees
  • Support EHS committees and safety engagement initiatives
  • Promote a strong safety culture through coaching, visibility, and partnership with laboratory leadership
  • Participate in annual budget planning and identify resources needed for compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years of EHS experience in a laboratory, chemical handling, or research and development environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA laboratory standards, advanced chemistry, and environmental compliance requirements
  • Strong hazard recognition of chemical handling, material compatibilities, and implementing controls
  • Experience supporting internal corporate EHS management systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with scientists, site teams, and cross-functional groups
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Experience supporting research and development laboratory environments preferred
  • Experience in chemical handling or specialty chemical environments preferred
  • Professional certification such as Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • Six Sigma or continuous improvement experience preferred
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States
