About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Morganton site with safety as the top priority
  • Own the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the entire facility
  • Build a culture of safety, visibility, accountability, and employee engagement
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, regulatory, Hexion policy, and Process Safety Management requirements
  • Lead daily safety contacts, the plant safety committee, operating-guide improvements, and associate training
  • Review incident investigations, process hazard analyses, operator certification check sheets, procedure reviews, confined-space permits, and Management of Change documents
  • Identify environmental improvement opportunities and report environmental incidents to internal and regulatory channels
  • Maintain dialogue with the community and local regulatory bodies
  • Implement and maintain the SAP Maintenance module and ensure mechanical integrity requirements
  • Investigate maintenance issues and apply structured problem-solving to improve reliability and unit performance
  • Direct production and the operations workforce
  • Develop annual and multi-year operating and capital budgets; manage costs, variances, inventories, and reporting
  • Lead productivity, cost reduction, continuous improvement, Lean Six Sigma, and waste-reduction programs
  • Manage capital planning and spending to reduce risk and improve cost and profitability
  • Assess technology and improve process capability, yield, facilities, and equipment
  • Monitor product quality using statistical tools and ensure timely delivery of quality products
  • Manage and measure customer satisfaction
  • Establish performance expectations and training programs; recognize performance, provide feedback, complete appraisals, and develop associates
  • Communicate company and site objectives and coordinate work teams
  • Lead recruitment and hiring of salaried and hourly associates
  • Align site practices with company policies and monitor applicable HR legislation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong plant experience leading or managing a chemical manufacturing site; demonstrated chemical manufacturing experience is required
  • Experience manufacturing products and processes in a Process Safety Management (PSM) chemical manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience, including at least 3 years of team leadership over salaried and hourly associates at a manufacturing site
  • Proven experience sustaining, changing, and embedding safe operations
  • Significant EHS experience with working knowledge and practice of OSHA, EPA, and PSM requirements
  • Experience applying Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques, including 5S, Gemba, Leader Standard Work, visual management, and KPI targets
  • Maintenance and production optimization experience
  • Prior project management experience
  • Ability to lead and influence teams, groups, and individuals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and facilitation skills
  • Engineering undergraduate degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience may be considered
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Successful completion of a drug test and background investigation
  • Authorization for periodic background checks required under CFATS or applicable regulatory requirements
  • Preferred: prior site leader or plant manager experience at a PSM-covered chemical manufacturing facility, including work within a matrixed organization
  • Preferred: experience with Incuity, SAP, SAP Maintenance modules, mechanical integrity programs, and ISO 9000 quality management systems
  • Preferred: knowledge of state regulatory requirements and experience leading capital project execution and process technology improvements
