About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set technical direction for the platform as the most senior individual contributor on the team
- Own architecture for consequential, cross-organizational infrastructure initiatives
- Lead Istio service mesh rollout across the organization
- Shape architecture for the Multi-Region Resilience Program
- Own technical direction of the AI-enriched Service Catalog
- Define architectural patterns, golden paths, and platform primitives for other engineering teams
- Build shared components that improve delivery consistency across teams
- Debug production incidents at the mesh layer and harden migration tooling
- Resolve cross-team architectural conflicts
- Coordinate multi-organization rollouts and resolve resourcing, sequencing, and environment-drift blockers
- Own testing infrastructure strategy across iteration environments, pre-production confidence gates, and multi-service validation
- Mentor Staff and Senior engineers on system design, migration strategy, and cross-team initiatives
- Lead infrastructure consolidations and migrations, including CI/CD platform changes, artifact registry modernization, and dependency upgrades
- Define metrics for platform adoption, incident trends, cost trajectory, and developer sentiment
- Collaborate with senior engineering leadership and teams across organizational boundaries
Requirements
What you’ll need- 12+ years in Platform, Infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles
- Demonstrated ownership of at least one initiative spanning multiple teams or business units
- Deep, production-proven expertise in Kubernetes/EKS, service mesh, and Infrastructure-as-Code at meaningful scale
- Strong service mesh expertise, with Istio strongly preferred, including mTLS, traffic shaping, sidecar architecture, and multi-cluster rollout
- Track record leading complex, multi-quarter technical programs from architecture through execution
- Ability to produce cost/risk analysis and phased proposals securing leadership buy-in and funding
- Experience debugging and resolving production incidents in distributed, multi-hop systems
- Proficiency in at least one of Go, Python, TypeScript, or Java
- Ability to influence without direct authority across engineering organizations
- Experience mentoring Staff-level engineers and shaping broader engineering system-design practices
- Experience with AI-native platform tooling, agentic tooling, MCP-backed APIs, and golden paths for deploying AI agents in production (preferred)
- Track record driving large-scale cost or infrastructure consolidation initiatives with measurable business impact (preferred)
- Experience with multi-region or high-availability architecture, including RPO/RTO planning and per-journey SLO definition (preferred)
- Comfortable authoring RFCs and leadership-facing technical proposals and presenting to senior engineering leadership (preferred)
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction for any employer
- Must indicate whether U.S. immigration sponsorship will be required
- Must disclose any previous employment or contractor/consultant engagement with Hims & Hers or its subsidiaries
