About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Adjust and resolve moderate to complex 1st Party commercial property claims through all phases
  • Review and assess coverage for losses
  • Conduct in-depth investigations to confirm coverage relevance and application to losses
  • Manage business income losses and periods of restoration
  • Document claim files with relevant documentation, correspondence and notes in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory authorities
  • Assess reserves for indemnity and expense payments
  • Draft coverage letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters, with minimal supervision
  • Identify emerging exposures and claims trends
  • Drive 1st Party Best Practices to manage expense and exposure on losses
  • Provide a high level of customer service
  • Identify suspected fraudulent claims and track them with the special investigations unit
  • Participate in Claims Projects as needed
  • Mentor and train other claims examiners
  • Suggest improvements to claims department processes and raise them with the manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of 1st Party Commercial claims handling experience
  • Advanced knowledge of claims analysis and adjusting practices
  • Experience with litigated claims
  • In depth knowledge of standards for claims documentation
  • Proven ability to actively and effectively negotiate settlement of moderate to complex claims
  • Experience in mentoring and training other claims examiners
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Active insurance adjuster’s license
  • B.A./B.S degree from an accredited College or University preferred
  • Subject matter expertise
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight within authority levels
  • Ability to identify and suggest improvements to claims department processes
